Trainee Teachers Explore Citizenship and PHSE Through Construction

Added 21st January 2012

Students took the idea that a flat shape can be used as a template for a three dimensional form. They worked on the idea that the shapes could be decorated with information that affirmed concepts about the individual and the collective.

They agreed by consensus how to decorate the object to present individual's ideas in a unified way. The need to work together to build the form reinforced the messages within their individual designs.

The session only ran for a couple of hours but within that time there was a complete creative cycle leading to memorable sense of achievement and rewarding celebration.

After the session students signed up to train as 'CAD 2 Hand' workshop leaders and discussed how to apply the idea of construction as part of Citizenship sessions for their school placements.
