Thank you to all the participants who helped make the 2025 Race such a success. The crowds loved it!

The race was set up to help raise funds for the annual 'Young Shipwrights Boat Race', which sees primary school children from across Bristol, supported by volunteers from a wide range of businesses build and sail pond-yachts. Each year up to 120 Models of the Bristol Channel Piulot Cutter are launched into the harbour to celebrate moving from Primary to Secondary school. The people they work with and the activities help children see success and happiness in life as something they can influence from an early age. Children are given tours of the harbour and complete boat building workshops on board the MV Balmoral which is moored in the city centre. The messages from this project are

  • Life is fun and can be be hard work,
  • Going places, socialising and teamwork are critical to success

Please donate what you can.

"This is hard difficult and fun". - Ten year old on a workshop on MV Balmoral

"Working with these children was exhausting but when they show you they actually solved an engineering problem or a team dynamics issue it was worth it".  Business Volunteer after a workshop on MV Balmoral
